The Trapper men dropped their basketball game on the road at Laramie County in Cheyenne on Jan. 29, then came up short Saturday in Torrington at Eastern Wyoming.
The Golden Eagles of LCCC protected their home eyrie 102-90 and Eastern’s Lancers won out 90-68.
At LCCC the pace was set for Northwest by Kyle Brown, who had 36 points on 14-of-21 shooting from the floor, including going 3-6 from three and 5-5 at the line.
Josh Petteno and Max Dehon accounted for 17 and 14 points, respectively. Alan Swenson — who was credited with eight assists — also cracked double figures with 11.
Swenson and Jerome Mabry led the rebounding column with a half-dozen, however the Trappers (9-14 overall) had only two offensive boards on the night.
Northwest hit 32 of its 56 field goal attempts from all distances, including 10 of 19 tries from 3-point range.
Erik Oliver went off for 53 points — more than half of the Golden Eagles’ total for the game — and Mateo Zovko had 23 for Laramie County.
Brown took his hot hand to Eastern Wyoming on Saturday, where he planted 27 more points in the string Wednesday. Petteno hit for 10.
Jonathan Arvidson claimed team-high honors for the Lancers with 23. In all, Eastern profited from having five players in double figures.
Brown was also the top NWC rebounder, with six boards. Dehon and Mabry grabbed five apiece.
The glass favored the Lancers on the day, as they collected 35 boards to NWC’s 24. Perhaps more significantly, Eastern had 13 offensive rebounds to just one for Northwest.
The Lancers led by just three at halftime but outscored the Trappers 48-29 after intermission.
Northwest’s men entertain Gillette College at 4 p.m. Saturday.
