For the third time in a row and the fourth time in five years the Powell Panther girls’ swim and dive team walked away with the Absaraka Conference title, pulling ahead of Douglas with 324 points last weekend in Cody.
Powell had two individual victories, coming from Kaitlin Diver in the 500 free (5:43.08) and Patricia Christensen in the 100 back (1:04.01).
The Panthers finished with a host of runner-up places, with Diver placing second in the 200 free (2:09.08); Kik Hayano earning a second place spot in the 200 IM (2:26.5); Aramonie Brinkerhoff in diving (313.1) and Aubree Fisher in the 100 breast (1:13.94).
Powell performed strong in several events, with three of the top seven divers, four of the top 12 in the 200 free and 100 back, and five of the top in the 100 fly, including three of the top five.
The Panthers placed top three in all three relays, with the 200 free team of Hayano, Paige Thomas, Baylee Brence and Diver placing second (1:51.53).
Powell pulled ahead and earn its third straight Absaraka Conference title, finishing with 324 points — ahead of Douglas’ 279 in second and Cody’s 223 in third.
LAST CHANCE TUESDAY
Powell will now begin to taper down the season over the coming weeks prior to the state meet on Nov. 3 and 4 in Gillette.
For those that have not qualified in an event for the meet, they will have one last chance this Tuesday — the Terry Bartlett Last Chance meet at 5 p.m. in Cody.
That will be the final opportunity to qualify for the state meet, with a majority of the swimmers likely not attending Tuesday if they have already earned a qualifying mark to state.
