Schwahn named to Super 25

Three additional Panthers earn nod

Senior Jhett Schwahn recently joined an elite list of football players in the state of Wyoming, after he was named to the 33rd edition of the Casper Star-Tribune Super 25 team.

The Super 25 team recognizes the top high school players in the state regardless of classification after each season.

JOINING THE CLUB

In a tradition that began in 1991, the Panthers have had an extensive number of players named to the Super 25 each year — as Schwahn becomes the 19th PHS athlete named to the list — it’s the 23rd time a Panther has been named to the team with several earning multiple recognitions.

He is the first player named to the team since Toran Graham received two straight honors in 2020-21. Schwahn is listed as a quarterback and defensive back.

He was one of six Panthers named to the All-State team last month, after his strong campaign as a dual-threat quarterback in addition to being a hard-hitting safety on defense.

“It’s something that I have been working toward for a long time,” Schwahn said. “The season didn’t end as well as we wanted it to but it’s good to get recognized for the hard work that you put in.”

He finished with 2,032 passing yards on 54.9% completion percentage, throwing 24 touchdowns to nine interceptions.

On the ground, he had 456 yards and 11 more touchdowns.

Defensively, Schwahn finished with 44 tackles and added one interception.

Schwahn is not the first of his family to be named to the Super 25, as he joined his older brother Dewey who was named to the team as a wide receiver, defensive back and kicking specialist in 2012.

“My brother got Super 25. It’s been a goal for awhile and it was cool to be recognized,” Schwahn said.

MORE PANTHERS RECOGNIZED

In recent years the Super 25 has expanded to include more recognitions, with a second and third team being named this season.

Three more Panthers were named to these teams, with Schwahn acknowledging he could not have done it without the help of his teammates.

“It’s great to see other guys get recognized,” Schwahn said. “It’s the biggest team sport as (coach Chase) Kistler says. Without those guys I wouldn’t be able to make it on the list.”

Powell had one player named to the second team, with junior linebacker Keona Wisniewski earning a spot as one of the top players in the state.

He finished third in the state for defensive points per game in 3A, with 91 tackles this past season.

Wisniewski had 18 tackles for loss, including 3.5 sacks. Along with strong tackling he recovered three fumbles, had an interception and a safety.

Two more seniors were recognized for their efforts in their finals seasons as Panthers, with wide receiver Trey Stenerson and defensive lineman Wyatt Blackmore named to the third team.

Stenerson is a two-time All-State selection, finishing this last season with 797 yards on 40 receptions, resulting in 12 touchdowns. Stenerson also added three interceptions and a fumble recovery as a cornerback for the Panthers.

Defensively Blackmore finished with 46 tackles on the defensive line, that included nine for loss and four sacks.

Blackmore added one forced fumble and a blocked kick.
