A strong all-around performance saw the Powell Panther boys’ track and field team earn a runner-up finish at the L.A. Kohnke at home Saturday in Powell, finishing with 148 points and earning several new state qualifiers.

Leading the way was Isaiah Woyak, who was the sole double event winner on the day. He won the high jump clearing 6 feet, 4 inches, along with winning the triple jump with a leap of 43-5 1/2.

Stuart Shoopman was the other event winner, taking the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 15.97.

Along with Shoopman, Nathan Preator earned his spot at the state meet in the short distance hurdles, finishing second with a 16.46 to earn a state qualifying time.

Jeremy Harms qualified for the pole vault after clearing 12 feet even, while Caden Nelson picked up an additional mark in the long jump with a leap of 20 feet, 3 3/4 inches.

A host of top three finishes helped the Panthers earn the second place team finish, with Nelson taking second in the 200 meters (22.94); Shoopman placed second in the 300 meter hurdles (42.82); Gabe Weimer placed second in the shot put (45-5); Evan Whitlock placed third in the 400 meters (54.68) and Liam Taylor placed third in the 800 meters (2:07.8).

Powell again had a strong showing in the throws, placing three of the top eight in both the shot put and discus, while placing at least two of the top eight in a majority of events.

Powell finished with 148 points, just ahead of Riverton in third with 129 but well behind Cody which won with 188.5 points.

The Panthers will now head back on the road to Lovell this Saturday to take part in its invitational.

Next weekend the Panthers will participate in the Wyoming Track Classic on Friday, April 26 in Casper, which will pit the top athletes in the state against each other regardless of classification, while the Panthers will also head to the Rocky Mountain Invitational on Saturday, April 27, in Cowley.
