The Powell Pioneers B team stayed alive on day two of the American Legion State B Tournament in Sheridan.
After falling in the first round to Cheyenne on Monday, the Pioneers moved to the loser’s bracket, where they played Evanston. Powell earned its first victory of the tournament, winning 4-2 in Tuesday’s elimination game.
Strong pitching from Dalton Worstell helped the Pioneers control the game for its entirety. He pitched 6.1 innings and struck out five Evanston batters. Offensively, Dillon Payne drove in two of the team’s four runs.
This win came less than 24 hours after the Pioneers suffered a late-game collapse against Cheyenne Post 6. Powell held a 5-0 lead in that game, but Cheyenne scored seven unanswered runs and later won 10-7.
The Pioneers were again looking to stay alive on Wednesday, with an afternoon game against Casper.
