After a resurgence in the 2022-23 season, the Northwest College wrestling team will open its season at home this Saturday in Cabre Gym.

Returning to the roster this year is a pair of All-Americans in defending national champion Aziz Fayzullaev and Cody Pinkerton who both placed in the top five at the national tournament last season.

Fayzullaev returns as the defending national champion at 174 pounds but is expected to move up and compete at 184 pounds this season while Pinkerton will return at 285 pounds.

Other returners from last year include Kendell Cummings (141), Orrin Jackson (165), Gavin Carter (197), Josh Womack (197) and Leighton Jensen (285).

Northwest will welcome two transfers in Caleb Nadig (149) and Codell McNiven (285).

Incoming freshmen for the team will include Bradin Murphy (125), Kaiden Rubosh (133), Treyson Davila (141), Casen Wopsock 9149), Jack Lounsbury (157), Jesse Thornton (174), Robby Ortega (184), Mark Larson (285) and Cash Lucas (285).

Northwest will be hosting its only event in Cabre Gym until the turn of the calendar, hosting a pair of duals against the University of Providence A and B teams this Saturday.

Those matches are scheduled to start at 10 and 11 a.m.

That will give the Trappers an opportunity to get matches under their belt, before heading out on the road for the rest of November and December.

Northwest will return to Powell to compete in the Apodaca Duals at the end of January on the 26-27.
