The Wyoming Department of Transportation is requesting that drivers in the construction zone on U.S. Highway 14/16/20W near the tunnels always wait for pilot cars during working hours.
Some motorist confusion still seems to exist with the tunnel lighting project west of Cody. According to the Wyoming Highway Patrol, some motorists are driving through the tunnels without waiting for the pilot car, because they don't think the construction zone is active. Project work times are between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m.
The pilot car system is important because the crews are working on platform lifts, zig zagging in and out of the closed lane, notes the WYDOT message. Motorists are asked to heed the signs in WYDOT construction zones, both for their safety, as well as the safety of the construction workers.
"The signage is clear," said WHP Lt. Lee Pence.
