Construction is becoming a constant at Northwest College as work is underway to prepare for the demolition of the DeWitt Student Center to make way for its replacement. Meanwhile, next to the soccer fields, a building that will serve as a temporary dining facility is getting close to completion.
Once ready, the building will used as a dining hall until the new student center, an expected 18-month job, is complete. That will free up the old gym, which has been used for dining until the new temporary facility opens.
NWC spokesperson Carey Miller said the big hang up for the new building is an electrical panel, which is expected at the end of March but not guaranteed.
It’s a similar theme to that of Albertsons, which had to delay its initial November 2022 opening due mainly to a delay in getting key electrical control equipment.
The college is utilizing kitchen space at the Park County Fairgrounds for food preparation. When the new student center opens, the temporary dining facility will offer locker rooms, coaching and athletic training space, and concessions for the NWC soccer teams.
