The Cody Country Art League’s 55th Annual Community Art Show and Sale drew 218 entries from both professional and amateur artists in the area.

Randy Burke took home the Best of Show award with his piece, “Hunting the Shallows.” Jacqueline Hajba-Miner was named emerging artist for “Mill Creek Adirondack.”

Meanwhile, Paul Kethley’s “When Stories are Told” took the Wells Fargo Award and Dave Kewitt’s “Back Alley Tour” earned the Fern Bath Award.

E. Denney NeVille served as the show’s judge this year and he called the role a privilege.

“The Art League is a credit to the community in that it highlights the vast depth of art awareness among the population, and it was amazing to see such a high quality of work done by so many who participated: four years old and into the retired age,” NeVille said. “Art appreciation defines a good quality in a community.”

The people’s choice award has yet to be determined. Local residents can cast their vote for their favorite piece by visiting the gallery, as the Community Art Show will hang at the gallery through Aug. 7.

“Come see the show,” said Gallery Director René Huge. “It’s really quite impressive, the talent around here.”

The Cody Country Art League is located at 836 Sheridan Ave. in downtown Cody and is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sundays.

NeVille encouraged people to support the the art league and those who work to keep it going.

“Stay art smart,” he said.
