Time to celebrate National Mentoring Month in January

Posted

Dear editor:

January is National Mentoring Month. For Big Brothers Big Sisters of Wyoming, this is a month of celebration. We celebrate our mentors for their commitment, dedication and — most importantly — for the impact they’ve had on youth in Park County.

Yet numerous youth in Park County need support that a meaningful relationship with a mentor can provide. Our most successful mentors have fun with kids. They build relationships while doing enjoyable activities — fishing, hiking, swimming, playing at a park, creating artwork, building a snowman, biking, playing basketball, baking and so much more.

At Big Brothers Big Sisters, we believe that every child is filled with unique and unending potential. Sometimes, all it takes to ignite that potential is knowing that someone is in their corner. Mentors are not saviors or heroes. Instead, they invest in meaningful interactions with kids and form quality relationships.

The opportunity to invest in the future of a child is here. If you’re looking to make a difference this year, consider making a difference in the life of a kid. Help us ensure that every child has the support they need to grow up BIG.
