Dear editor:
April is donate life month. Wyoming has been one of the leaders in the nation with donor registry of 54% of driver license and ID applicant signup to be organ and tissue donors
One donor can save up to eight lives and heal more than 75 lives through tissue donation. In 2023, 307 heroic donors provided 918 life-saving transplants in Wyoming communities with 1,703 heroic tissue donors saving and healing with 144,000 tissue grafts.
Our heroes around Powell may be someone you may know or not. They may be your radiologist tech, your photographer at our local paper, local farmer, wife of a business owner, a 19-year young man who did save eight lives, one being mine. These donors are true heroes in my eyes.
I ask that everyone stop that 30 seconds out of their lives and check your driver’s license to see if you have the little red heart. If you do, thank you, if not please sign up to become a donor. Parents, have that conversation with your children about what being a donor is all about.
From all of us in the transplant world: THANK YOU.
Don Hansen
Five-year double lung transplant recipient, Powell
