Sept. 11 remembrance events planned in Powell, Cody

Events are being planned in Powell and Cody to remember the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, those who died and how the country responded.

Members of the Powell American Legion family invite everyone to gather at 6:30 p.m. at Washington Park for “a time to remember — a time to renew our resolve.”

In Cody, a group of local businesses is sponsoring a 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb at “The Scout” statue behind the Buffalo Bill Center of the West. The event starts at 8 a.m. and people who want to participate will climb the two flights of stairs leading up to the statue 55 times — equivalent to the 110 flights of stairs on the World Trade Center towers.

Anyone over the age of 12 can participate as an individual or as part of a team.

Those who do not wish to stair climb (but who would like to watch all or part and honor in their own way) are more than welcome to attend.

There is no registration or fee.
