Powell Valley Healthcare was one of only a few Wyoming hospitals to receive recently an award for nurse communication.
Becker’s Hospital Review recently released its list of the best hospitals for nurse communicationin each state. The data used to determine the list comes from results of the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS), developed by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid. Powell Valley Healthcare received the top hospital designation for nurse communication along with only three other hospitals in Wyoming — St. Johns Medical Center in Jackson, Summit Medical Center in Casper and Johnson County Healthcare Center in Buffalo. Only 364 hospitals across the nation received the 5-star designation out of more than 6,000 facilities.
“I want to thank all our nursing leaders and our staff for the hard work and effort they have put in to improve our nurse communication and achieve this level of quality performance,” said Chief Nursing Officer Arleen Campeau. “This makes a positive impact on our patient care and satisfaction and is an important part of the healing process.”
The nurse communication star rating combines data from three HCAHPS survey questions and summarizes how well patients feel that their nurses explained things clearly, listened carefully to the patient, and treated the patient with courtesy and respect. The average score of all three questions was 87% and, on the question, “Nurses treat with courtesy and respect,” the score was 95%.
