The Park County Fair Advisory Committee wants to hear from the community on what they want to see at the next county fair, specifically on the concert stage and the free stage.

At the October board meeting, board members and staff agreed to send out surveys on the two items as a way to try and increase attendance. Last summer’s concert drew just 421 people, and  Andrea Earhart, advisory committee chair, said it’s been a few years since a concert drew a good amount of people.

“We don’t need to make a lot of money on the concert,” she said. “We do need to break even.”

She said they’re open to considering changing both the genre of music and the day, although the demolition derby has long proven to be the most popular event in its Saturday time slot.

Earhart said the concert has been on Thursday as long as she can remember and a major reason for that has been the opportunity to get bigger musicians for less money on an “off day,” while they’re traveling to a different venue for a weekend concert.

So, in tandem with the surveys she said they’re working on putting out feelers to connect with popular musicians. But they want the feedback to know who to pursue.

“Any kind of feedback we could get we appreciate,” she said. “We’re trying to find the right balance between cost and what will bring people in.”

They’re also looking for free stage act input, including what kind of acts people enjoy the most, including singers, dancers, magicians, hypnotists, and what other acts people would like to see, including the four former acts as well as comedy, an eating contest and a talent show.

“We like to offer a variety,” Earhart said.

She said they plan to take action at their November meeting on how to move forward. The surveys close Oct. 31.
