New club coming to Powell Middle School

Posted

Going into the 2023-2024 academic school year Powell Middle School students will have the opportunity to participate in a choir club.

Assistant Principal Chanler Buck spoke to the Park County School District 1 board during its Tuesday meeting about the club, which was proposed to him this summer by music and choir teacher Rachel Schoessler.

“She has the end in mind, she's looking at another pillar to build her music program,” Buck said. “She currently teaches music and choir in middle school. Choir is a seventh and eighth grade course — our sixth graders don't have that opportunity.”

Buck added that a lot of students show interest in music and choir and Dusty Paul said that he had heard excitement from the community about the possibility of the club. It will also allow students to participate in both band and choir.

New delegates

The school board has two new Wyoming School Board Association delegates for the 2023-2024 academic year.

Trustees Laura Riley and Beau Fulton will be serving as delegates this year and will be replacing Lillian Brazelton and Tracy Morris. Morris is unable to serve as a delegate this year because she is a member of the WSBA Board of Directors.

The purpose of these delegates is to vote on resolutions sent forward by the WSBA, Of these two board members only one will have voting power on the resolution.

Board members Dusty Paul and Lillian Brazelton will be serving as legislative liaisons for this year, replacing Riley and Trace Paul. Their job will be to track education bills as they come through the legislature.
