Legislature must pass HJ0002 to protect our Wyoming values

Posted

Dear editor:

Wyoming is a state rich in tradition. We like our way of life, we love our land, and we respect the voices and autonomy of our citizens. We trust the intelligence and will of the voters. Our citizen Legislature is comprised of our friends and neighbors.

However, our tradition of self-reliance and independence is at risk. Dark money groups have been flooding our mailboxes with attack ads that fail to disclose who is funding them. Are they from out-of-state special interest groups? We don’t know, and that is a threat to our democracy and our Wyoming way of life.

Fortunately, there is a solution. The Legislature is currently considering HJ0002 — Political Expenditures, a resolution that affirms Wyoming’s support for a constitutional amendment to ensure transparency in political expenditures while also allowing states like Wyoming to regulate corporate, union, and other political contributions. Wyoming voters deserve a clear and accurate picture of who is trying to influence their vote.

By addressing these issues through the passage of HJ0002, we can ensure the voices of the people of Wyoming are not drowned out by secret dark money special interest groups. I urge everyone to join me in asking our legislators to support HJ0002 so we can protect the values of Wyoming for future generations.
