Jerry L Harkey was born April 15, 1936, in Harkeyville, Texas, the second son of Cleo and Elvin Harkey. He went to be with the Lord on March 7, 2023. Jerry accepted Christ as savior at the age of 9 years and was baptized in the San Saba River as a member of the Algerita Baptist Church. He married the “love of his life and best friend” Pat, on June 18, 1960. He was ordained as a deacon at Walnut Creek Baptist Church in Austin, Texas, in 1967 and worked with Royal Ambassadors for 25 years on a local, associational and state level. He worked as a building contractor for 40 years and then worked for Plant Service with Leander ISD.

He was preceded in death by two sons, Jerry Kevin Harkey and Barry Keith Harkey, one brother, Cecil Glenn Harkey, and his parents Cleo and Elvin Harkey. He is survived by his loving wife, Pat Harkey of Taylor, Texas; son Scott Harkey (Chrystal) of San Saba, Texas; daughters Kimberley Lucas (Steve) of Granger, Texas, and Shannon Eller (Flann) of Powell, Wyoming. Jerry was the grandpa of 11 grandchildren: Heather, Justin, Taylor, Joshua, Ashley, Kalea, Alyssa, Tanner, Tessa, Everest and Cora; and great-grandpa to Kasen, Kohen, Kylee, Kailyn, Deyen, Haven, Bronsyn, Maverick and Blakelee. He also leaves behind two brothers, Jim and Richard Harkey, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
