Gethen Jenkins was named Best Outlaw Country Artist in LA Weekly’s “Best of L.A.” issue, soon after his music was featured on the hit TV show “Yellowstone” multiple times. Now, on May 6 he’ll be playing at the Cody Cattle Company.

Jenkins has been playing music since he was 8 years old, but it took him some time before he went all in. First he joined the U.S. Marine Corps, then he was working in high-end remodel construction. When he was named 2018’s Best Outlaw Country Artist he didn’t look back.

In 2019 Jenkins secured his first TV spot when “Me My Bottle and Nothing But Time” played on the second season of “Yellowstone,” the song was followed by “Bottle in My Hand” and “Restless Ways” in subsequent seasons. The latter has gathered 1,957,261 streams for Jenkins on Spotify.

“It was just amazing man, really,” Jenkins said. “It was validating. It was my first placement on television and it was one of the best shows on TV at the time.”

Jenkins added that the placement on the Kevin Costner-led series “was the only thing that kept us going through Covid.”

The tone of Jenkins’ music is eclectic even among his three songs that made “Yellowstone.” His music is what comes out at the time, he said, but his voice best comes through on his slower songs.

“I’m an old heartbroken cowboy,” he joked. 

Talking to Jenkins, he comes across as anything but old or heartbroken. While some of his songs are slow and tell the story of a heartbroken cowboy, others like “Basket Case” showcase his booming voice and big personality. His concert at Cody Cattle Company will be anything but sad and slow.

“We’re just gonna have a damn good time and we’re not gonna let anyone stop us,” Jenkins said. 

Jenkins’ latest album “Western Gold” was delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic but is out for purchase and streaming now.
