Wendi Stovall has challenged Powell leaders, from the mayor to the city council, to make the jump. But she didn’t stop there; she’s been all around the city looking for folks willing take a freezing plunge in icy waters for Special Olympics.

“We've reached out to all the doctors here. We've hit the hardware store and all of the grocery stores. We've gone to all the businesses all up and down Bent [Street]. We're hoping we've been out there hitting everybody we can this year to help fund local athletes,” said Stovall, who is organizing the 2024 Jackalope Jump.

This year’s event is scheduled for March 22 at Powell High School and is open to the public. The proceeds will help send about 50 Powell athletes to the state games May 12 and 13 in Gillette.

“Your involvement is critical in aiding our mission. Proceeds raised go to help provide year-round sports training and competition for athletes,” Stovall said. Contributions and involvement help athletes achieve their goals, live healthier lives, and have a sense of inclusion in the community, according to Stovall. Her daughter, Mary Kate Herrera, is just one of the several Special Olympics champions from Powell who are hoping for your support.

Jackalope Jump challenges brave Wyomingites at numerous locations around our beautiful state to "Make a Splash" by doing an early spring jump into a pool of air-cooled water. Depending on the weather, seeing public figures and friends showing their support could make for some great laughs.

The concept is simple: participants raise $100 and will take an invigorating dip into icy freezing water! The jumps, however, are so much more than that, according to Stovall.

“They’re the kind of fun and inspiring events that you really must experience for yourself,” she said.

All jumpers who raise a minimum of $100 per person will receive a Jackalope Jump T-shirt. Participants who raise $750 per person will also get a cool pair of John’s Crazy Jackalope Jump socks. Those individuals raising $1,000 earn a duffle bag as well and the $1,500 level will get an additional $100 Visa Gift Card. All fundraising levels are per person.

Schools and first responders can easily get involved in fundraising and participating at a local jump and earn a cool Jackalope Jump incentive at $50 minimum per person. Cool School Challengers and First Responders are eligible for all incentive levels by meeting the minimum fundraising amounts per person.

The best costume, largest group, and most funds raised will receive prizes. Online registration is free and strongly encouraged for all participants at sowy.org.
