Illustrated talk highlights scenic North Fork drive

In the next “Local Lore” talk at the Buffalo Bill Center of the West, photographer-historian Bob Richard of Cody presents “The Most Scenic 72 miles: The Road to Yellowstone.”

The free illustrated presentation takes place Thursday, Aug. 18 at noon in the Center’s Coe Auditorium.

The 72 miles takes travelers from Cody to Fishing Bridge at the northern tip of Yellowstone Lake.  Richard shares stories and photographs of the scenery along that route, including mountain peaks, sculpted rocks, the rolling North Fork of the Shoshone River, Sylvan Pass, and the shores of Yellowstone Lake, along with wildlife often seen during the trip.

The photographic journey includes Richard’s own photos—many of which are found in his book Cody to Yellowstone—along with those of his father Jack Richard, grandfather Fred Richard, and uncle Ned Frost.

The Local Lore series is hosted and coordinated by the Center’s McCracken Research Library, with talks on the third Thursday of each month. The Sept. 18 presentation looks at The Heart Mountain Internment Camp Story.
