Dear editor:

Given that Rep. Harriet Hageman is such an ardent Trump supporter, I decided to call her office in Washington this afternoon to see if I could get her response to the former president’s comment saying he would encourage Russia to “do whatever the hell they want” if attacking a NATO country that didn’t pay enough for defense.

The aid who took my call was surprisingly ignorant of anything that is Wyoming. He asked for my contact information and was clueless about Powell, zip codes in the state and how to spell “Absaroka” — my street name.

So, when I finally got around to ask him what the representative’s stance was on Trump’s reckless comment, I was told that he could put me in touch with someone who could answer my question. I found that odd and told him so, “You mean you have to ask someone else about this comment? It seems to me that someone like yourself who answers calls from her constituents would know up front whether she supported or didn’t support such an absurd comment from Trump.”

After hearing that, he paused for a couple of seconds, and politely thanked me for calling without ever answering my question — as if I was some homeless person asking him for spare change — and hung up.
