UW hosting Spanish Science Cafe at Powell Library

The University of Wyoming is holding a Spanish Science Cafe starting at 4 p.m. Sunday at the Powell Library where three UW graduate students will present their biodiversity research in 15-minute talks in Spanish.

The host organization is the Biodiversity Institute from the University of Wyoming, celebrating its 10-year anniversary by bringing student research to communities around the state. The institute has gone to Pinedale, Riverton and now Powell. It’s also a way to treat the growing Hispanic community.

This is a relaxed opportunity for the public to hear the latest in biodiversity science. 

  

Talk details:

1. Óscar Romero Báez — “Desvelando los secretos ecológicos-evolutivos de algunos reptilianos mexicanos”

2. Katie Davis — “Ingeniero de ecosistemas: cómo el castor puede sostener a los anfibios en un mundo cambiante”

3. Yasaman Shakeri — “Los efectos de la depredación del puma en la recuperación del borrego cimarrón de Sierra Nevada”

   

In English:

1. Óscar Romero Báez — “Revealing the ecological-evolutionary secrets of a few Mexican reptilians”

2. Katie Davis — “Ecosystem Engineer: How the Beaver Can Sustain Amphibians in a Changing World”

3. Yasaman Shakeri — “The effects of puma predation on the recovery of the Sierra Nevada bighorn sheep”

   

The event is free, open to the public, and will include Millstone pizzas.
