Park County’s roads and bridges generally emerged unscathed from last week’s heavy rains and the flash flooding scene north of Powell. However, the Carter Mountain Access Road west of Cody wasn’t as fortunate, as a small section of the Shoshone National Forest road slid away.
The county worked with the Forest Service to fix a similar slide at the same spot last year, but, “unfortunately … the problem has resurfaced,” said Park County Engineer Brian Edwards.
“The road is still open and passable, but we have the problem area coned off,” Edwards said Thursday.
A Shoshone engineer predicted “a more substantial fix” will be needed than last year’s. Edwards didn’t have a timeline for the work, but “I am sure a few weeks of good drying will be needed,” he said.
