Studio Theatre at Cody Center of Performing Arts will present John Cariani’s quirky and romantic comedy “Almost, Maine,” Jan. 20-22 at the Cody Center for the Performing Arts. The show will begin at 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday with a matinee performance on Sunday at 2 p.m. Tickets are $20.

“Almost, Maine” is one of the most produced plays in the country and is a frequent selection for colleges and high schools because of its several short vignettes. The play is set in the mythical town of Almost, Maine where on a cold, clear night in January, nine love stories unfold under the awe-inspiring beauty of the northern lights. “Almost, Maine” has a fable-like quality giving us both hilarious and melancholy lessons on love, longing, friendship and hope. Directed by Bethany Sandvik, “Almost, Maine” is a true rom-com for the stage.

In addition to directing the show, Sandvik appears with her husband Jeff in one of the scenes of the play. “I’m really excited to appear on stage with my husband for the first time!” Sandvik notes. “He’s always been involved in some way, but the two of us on stage together is something that has never happened in the 25 years we’ve been together. Kennedy Corr is directing our scene in order to keep the peace!” A real family affair, the Sandviks’ son and daughter-in-law Jake and Jaden will also appear in the production. The cast includes local actors as well: Meghan Nunn, Brianne Phillips, Kale Mickleson, Seamus Hopkins, Lauralin Williamson and Andrew Rossi.

A small art display of images of the northern lights will also be on view in the lobby during the productions. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased online at www.codymonologues.com or at the door. Seating is limited, therefore online purchases are encouraged.

Studio Theatre at CCPA is the resident theatre company of Cody Center for the Performing Arts located at 1527 18th Street. Studio Theatre strives to create and present work that highlights significant historical and social issues, empowers women and fosters creativity in all ages.
