Middle school swimming finally gets underway

Posted

Multiple cancellations in an already short season led to the Powell Middle School swimming team not being able to participate in a meet until a home meet on Feb. 25, where the Cubs had strong performances in their first competition.

Leading the way for the Cubs was Garrett Lennon, who finished first in the 1-meter diving — finishing with a school record 123.2 points.

That broke the school record set of 107.8 by Jared Hansen in 1993.

Powell also got a host of first place finishes in other events, where Lennon won the boys’ 100 IM (1:14.15); Ashlee Jacobsen won the girls’ 50 free (33.22); McKay Kilcrease won the girls’ 50 back (43.45) and 50 breast (46.58); Tyler Kruger won the boys’ 50 back (37.92) and 50 fly (39.27); Daisy Carpenter won the girls’ 100 free (1:27.66).

The sole relay victory for the Cubs on the day came in the 200 medley relay, where the team of Kruger, Macie Velasco, Lennon and Jacobsen won in a time of 2:28.32.

The middle school’s season is rapidly coming to a close, with the conference meet already scheduled for this upcoming Saturday in Worland.
