Literacy kits for young readers

Posted

Thanks to a grant from The Dorothy Louise Kyler Fund and The John Henry Eldred Jr. Foundation, the Park County libraries are rolling out Little Elk’s Literacy Kits.

The Powell Library will also be hosting a free Evening Story Time and Showcase event on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. Families and educators in Powell are invited to join in the celebration at the Powell Library’s temporary location in Homesteader Hall at the Park County fairgrounds.

These imaginative kits, bursting with creativity and learning opportunities, are made possible through a grant aimed at enhancing early childhood literacy in rural communities. Each kit contains picture books, a board book, a Wonder Book, an educational toy and even a catchy song or poem that complements the theme.

With themes ranging from construction sites to dance/movement, farm animals to tractors/farming, there’s a world of wonder waiting to be discovered in every kit. To celebrate the launch of Little Elk’s Literacy Kits, the Cody Library will also host an Evening Story Time and Showcase event at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Little Elk’s Literacy Kits will be available to check out at all three Park County Library locations in Powell, Cody, and Meeteetse, ensuring access for families across the county.
