Former administrator of Cody jail joins Game and Fish Department

The Wyoming Game and Fish Department has announced a new addition to its leadership team — a man familiar to Park County residents.

Cody native Tod Larson was recently selected as the Game and Fish’s chief of policy and planning. In this new role, Larson coordinates Game and Fish’s strategic plan, the new Wyoming Wildlife Taskforce and other priority projects for the department. Larson also serves as the custodian of public records for Game and Fish.

“The Wyoming Game and Fish Department has a great reputation and for a very long time I wanted to be part of the organization,” Larson said in a statement. “I look forward to helping in those efforts alongside the men and women of the department and the public in service to the state.”

Larson graduated from Cody High School and went on to have a 25-year career in the Wyoming National Guard. He taught and coached football and basketball at Centennial Junior High School in Casper before becoming the administrator of the Park County Detention Center in July 2010.

He oversaw the Cody jail through mid-2016 — making an unsuccessful run for Park County Clerk along the way in 2014. Larson left the county and state to become the city manager of a small Alaskan town.

Larson served City of Seldovia (with a then-population of 247 people) for a little more than a year before moving west to Dillingham, Alaska, to become the city manager there. He stayed in Dillingham (pop. 2,215) for three years — right up until taking his new job with the Game and Fish.

“We’re glad to have Tod working on these policy-driven initiatives and welcome him back to Wyoming,” said Wyoming Game and Fish Director Brian Nesvik.

For public information requests, Larson can be reached at wgf.inforequest@wyo.gov.
