Thirteen Powell volunteer firefighters responded early Sunday afternoon to put out a haystack fire in a large outbuilding on Livy Lane off of Del Rio Road.
The cause of the fire was undetermined, said fire chief Dustin Dicks. He said the hay was all burned and the fire damaged some of the structure, but none of the equipment inside was damaged.
A quick response helped, as Dicks said the family was home at the time and quickly noticed the blaze, while a neighbor hooked up a garden hose and was able to slow the spread of the fire until firefighters arrived, although the wind was too high for the hose to be able to dampen the flames. Firefighters were on scene for roughly an hour and a half before clearing the scene.
“It could’ve been a lot worse,” Dicks said.
