Commissioners set October date on land use plan hearing

Posted

People will have another chance to make their voices heard about the new proposed Park County Land Use Plan before the Park County Commissioners have a chance to vote to adopt it Oct. 3.

A public hearing will be held at 2 p.m. that Tuesday in what will be the commissioners first of many meetings at the Grizzly Room in the Cody Library. (The commissioners are one of many county departments finding new temporary digs as the courthouse receives an intensive HVAC system overhaul)

The county is advertising the meetings starting next week, as a 45 day notice is required ahead of the public hearing and adoption. Commission Chair Dossie Overfield said the commissioners could choose to vote to adopt the plan following the public hearing. Or, if they deem major changes are necessary, they would have to back up the process to the Park County Planning and Zoning Commission, who would have to again certify the plan with the changes made, and then the county would have to do likewise.

Requests for proposals for a company to develop new regulations to address the goals of the new land use plan are also being published next week along with the public hearing notice.

The October hearing is a big step in what has been a lengthy process that began roughly a year and a half ago. The process has included dozens of meetings for the public, industry and municipal leaders to provide input, all of which was taken in by Clarion Consultants and much of it addressed as part of the final draft of the land use plan, consultant Darcie White noted at a recent commissioners meeting.
