The Trapper and Panther Boys Basketball Camp is set to kick off Monday morning at 9 a.m. at Powell High School.

The camp will run from Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to mid afternoon — with Thursday being a half day that ends at 1 p.m.

That will include skills being run primarily in the morning focusing on the technical ability of players, a lunch and break period followed by a lecture and scrimmage setting in the afternoon.

Camp will also include daily competitions along with awards given out on Thursday.

The camp will be run by Powell High School boys’ coach Mike Heny and Northwest Trapper men’s coach Andy Ward.

“We want it to be a fun and enjoyable experience and I think that will happen,” Ward said. “At the same time we want to teach them fundamental skills.”

Boys and girls in grades 4-12 are welcome to attend the camp, and costs $180 for all four days. An $80 deposit is required at the time of registration. Check in will be at 8 a.m. on Monday for the camp. Campers will be grouped according to age and ability.

“We are going to try and help them get better at basketball,” Ward said. “We just want to instill a love for the game in our youth.”

Ward said that college kids will be in attendance to help teach kids alongside the coaches from PHS.
