Agee named Panther girls’ soccer coach

Posted

Following the resignation of Kaitlin Loeffen in June, the Powell Panther girls’ soccer program was left without a head coach following an improved season where the team finished one spot out of qualifying for the state tournament.

The Panthers found themselves a new head coach when Danny Agee was approved for the position at the Powell School Board meeting on Tuesday.

Agee brings a wealth of experience into the position, having played since the age of 4 and year round competitively since the age of 8.

“I was blessed with many great experiences and opportunities over my career that allowed me to travel to several different countries,” he said.

Agee has had the opportunity to coach kids of various ages for about 20 years, but for the last 10 years, he’s primarily coached middle and high school level players – including assisting the Powell Middle School program this past spring.

When he learned he’d be the new head coach, Agee said he was excited for the opportunity to help develop a young team heading into next year.

“I was very excited to be able to have the opportunity to work with the high school program, as I have gotten to know many of the players and incoming players,” he said. “I will work hard to help it be a good experience for everyone, and I hope that we can all see some success.”

Bringing his own style to the team, Agee will focus on a possession-based style of play that will get everyone involved in the attack.

He said that he hopes to keep the ball involved around the team until they find an opportunity to score, whether that be one to two passes, or all the way up to 20.

“This takes time, every practice and game will work to build toward a team that will contend at state,” Agee said.

The Panthers have not qualified for the state tournament since the 2017 season, something the new coach hopes to change.

He is hoping his players can learn to push themselves beyond their comfort zone to where they will cover for teammates so the team can be successful.

“If every lady values their teammates more than their standing on the team, then we can accomplish a great deal in a short time,” Agee said.

The team has already been hard at work over the summer, holding open turfs on Tuesdays and Thursdays at the high school.

Agee said his goal is to bring in as many players as possible to the program and help them appreciate the game as well as improve their ability and knowledge of the game.

“This summer has already been a great success,” he said. “They work hard and are extremely coachable. I do not think a coach can ask for any more than that.”
