For the second year in a row senior Addy Thorington was recognized for her efforts in 3A basketball, being named to the All-State team while two of her teammates, fellow senior Waycee Harvey and sophomore Coy Erickson, were named All-Conference.

Receiving the honor came as a shock for Thorington, who earned it for a second straight year in basketball in addition to also receiving All-State in volleyball the past three seasons.

“Having the opportunity to receive this honor for the second year in a row has really been astonishing,” Thorington said. “It means the world to me to have so many people who support me.”

This season she improved her scoring from a year ago, pushing her scoring average from 8.9 points a game up to 11.2 during her senior campaign.

She also increased her rebounding average from seven a year ago up to 8.5 this year, while also being a force on the defensive end by averaging 1.5 steals and 2.5 blocks this year, which were nearly identical to her stats a year ago.

“The three things that allowed me to improve were growth, practicing and knowing the game,” Thorington said. “I didn’t want to stop and be OK with where my playing level was. I wanted to keep growing from last year. I feel like my knowledge of the game has improved because my coach [Chelsea Kistler] is teaching us new tips and tricks throughout the season.”

Throughout her career the Panthers have continued to improve each season, growing from a team that won just six games her freshman year to winning 18 games a year ago and 17 this year with berths at the state tournament.

Powell finished with a 17-9 record, which is the first time the Panthers have finished with single digit losses since 2018.

“We have continued to improve because of our determination,” Thorington said. “When I was a freshman, we were just trying to get as many wins as possible. As we continued to grow throughout the years our mindset changed to how do we get into the state championship.”

Thorington credited her teammates and coach, as Kistler has helped the Panthers grow over her years in charge.

“I could not have accomplished this without my coach,” Thorington said. “She has seen the best and the worst of me and has stuck with me through it all. I would like to thank her for all of the hard work she has put into making us the team we are.”

Along with All-State honors, Thorington was named to the 3A West All-Conference team alongside Harvey and Erickson.

This is the first honor for both athletes in basketball, as both showed significant growth from a year ago.

Harvey nearly doubled her scoring output from a year ago, growing from 4.3 points per game up to 8.1 this year.

She also increased her rebounding from 2.8 per game up to 3.8 per game, her assists from 1.6 per game up to 2.7 per game while handing over 20 less turnovers than a year ago.

Erickson continued to see her role increase during her sophomore year, rotating in as a starter in addition to being a spark off the bench for the Panthers.

She led the Panthers with 36 3-pointers this year, shooting 34% from long range on a 7.2 points per game scoring average, nearly double her 3.7 average a year ago.

Erickson scored the second most points in a game this year with 19 behind Thorington who had 24 in a game, as Erickson also tied the school record for 3-pointers in a game with five against Buffalo in February.
