After a week away from competition, the Powell Panther boys’ and girls’ soccer teams are set to battle their Park County rivals, the Cody Fillies and Broncs, in their home openers Tuesday (tonight) at Panther Stadium.
Starting the night will be the girls at 3 p.m., as the No. 3-ranked Panthers (3-2 overall, 1-0 3A West) will go to battle with the No. 1-ranked Fillies (2-0 overall, 1-0 3A West).
The Powell girls are in search of the second victory in program history over their rivals, with the lone victory over Cody coming in 2014.
To earn a win the Panthers will have to snap the current Cody 36-game winning streak which dates back to the start of the 2022 season.
Following the girls, at 5 p.m. the No. 5-ranked Panther boys (3-2, 1-0 3A West) will take on the No. 3-ranked Broncs (1-1 overall, 1-0 3A West).
The Powell boys had won seven straight over Cody before a loss last year at home, with this likely being a key contest early in the 3A West for both the boys and girls regarding postseason positioning.
