The No. 9-ranked Northwest College wrestling team will get an opportunity to compete in front of the home crowd for the first time since early November, matching up with NAIA school No. 20-ranked Montana State University-Northern in a dual on Tuesday night at 6 p.m.

“With the students not being back I don’t know how the crowd will be, I know people want to see this wrestling team and I hope we wrestle well,” coach Jim Zeigler said.

Difficulties coming out of the winter break have come in a different form for the Trappers, with some athletes not returning to campus yet due to inclement weather alongside other unforeseen circumstances.

“Communicating with every one of them before they left, what the road conditions were and where they are going to stay — it’s a big deal trying to get them here and get them here safely,” Zeigler said.

Heading into an important stretch of the season, the Trappers are hoping to use the dual Tuesday as a test to see where their lineup stands.

Northwest was hoping to add Brady Lowry back into the lineup for the dual, but as of Wednesday he has not been cleared to wrestle from his injuries sustained in the bear attack in October.

“They [MSU-Nothern] are a four-year school and a top-ranked NAIA team,” Zeigler said. “They are a tough opponent with juniors and seniors. What we want is a scrimmage because we both have important events coming up.”

Zeigler is looking for his team to compete against the Northern Lights in a strong dual, before heading out the next day for one of their most important events of the year.

Immediately after the dual on Tuesday, the Trappers will head to Miami, Oklahoma, on Wednesday to get ready for the NJCAA National Duals that are taking place next Friday and Saturday.

Northwest will remain out on the road for another weekend before returning to Powell for the Apodaca Duals on Jan. 27 and 28.

Zeigler said that he hopes the dual on Tuesday will be a good preview of the team, and expects there will be strong growth between then and the Apodacas for the Trappers.
