End of an era for NWC volleyball program

Pohlman leaves behind legacy of excellence on and off the court

Northwest College head volleyball coach Shaun Pohlman announced last week that he’s accepted the head coaching position at Lewis-Clark State College, a four-year school in Lewiston, Idaho. The school competes in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA)’s Frontier Conference, which is a step up from the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) that includes NWC.

On a roster full of talent from all parts of the globe, it can be difficult for a player from small-town Wyoming to find his niche.

On Wednesday, Dec. 20, the Powell High School wrestling team split into groups of two to four, but instead of putting on their headgear and practice clothes to push each other to get better on the mat, they went shopping to help seven local families in need of some assistance this holiday season.

Tyrer named Scholar All-American

Ryan Tyrer, captain of the 2017 Northwest College men’s soccer team, was back home for the holidays in the United Kingdom last week, when an early-morning text pulled him out of his slumber.

Several members of the Powell High School cross country program received season-end awards.

The Powell High School wrestling team competed in the Battle in the Big Horns Dual Tournament in Worland on Friday and Saturday, placing third with an overall 5-1 record.

Overcoming an early deficit, the Powell High School boys’ basketball team fought back to outlast Lovell in the final minutes of its home opener, winning 54-52 on Tuesday, Dec. 12.

Lady Panthers down Lovell in home opener

In the first home game of the season, the Powell High School Lady Panthers basketball team beat Lovell 46-37 on Thursday.

Trappers finish 1-2 headed into break

Losses to Williston State, Dawson round out non-conference schedule

The Northwest College men’s basketball team closed out 2017 on a stumble, finishing 1-2 on the road before winter break.
