LARAMIE (AP) — Aubrey Vandiver scored 27 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, and Hillary Carlson added 19 points in leading Wyoming past Oklahoma State 75-71 in the second round of the Women’s National Invitation Tournament on Monday night.
Wyoming (24-8) will host Colorado in the third round tonight (Thursday). Colorado (17-15) beat California 81-65.
Vandiver hit 9 of 16 shots from the field, including 4 of 8 3-pointers. She scored nine of her points in the last 5:47 of the game after Oklahoma State had battled back from a 16-point deficit.
“I really think that this team just has a really good attitude about not giving up when, you know, we gave up a 16-point lead,” Vandiver, a 5-foot-11 senior guard, said.
Chaundra Sewell and Bec Campigli each contributed 10 points for Wyoming, which shot 41 percent from the field.
Tiffany Bias led Oklahoma State with 17 points — 16 in the second half — and six assists.
Oklahoma State (17-15) played without its leading scorer, Toni Young, who broke her arm while dunking the ball during practice last Friday.
“It makes a difference when your go-to person is not here,” OSU coach Kurt Budke said.
Wyoming used a 14-2 run in the first half to go up 33-17, but Oklahoma State pulled within 35-27 at halftime thanks to a 10-2 run to end the half.
Oklahoma State, which made 36.4 percent of its shots, then began the second half with a 9-0 run to take a 36-35 lead.
“They really made it a ballgame,” Wyoming coach Joe Legerski said.
The teams went back and forth with the lead until Vandiver started a 13-2 run with 5:47 left to put Wyoming ahead for good.
