Powell police are investigating an incident of alleged assault and abduction in Powell Wednesday afternoon.According to Powell Police Chief Tim Feathers, the department was notified that a man was being assaulted and forced into a blue car in the 500 block of North Clark Street shortly after 1 p.m.
When the car left the area, one witness followed it and reported its location to the dispatch center, enabling dispatch to direct officers to the vehicle's location. Officers stopped the vehicle at the intersection of U.S. 14-A and Road 7 east of Powell.
Feathers said four people were in the vehicle, one of them the alleged victim. He declined to identify any of the individuals while officers investigated the case.
“We're sorting out everyone's role in the incident now,” Feathers said late Wednesday afternoon.
Feathers said Powell residents and visitors attending the Park County Fair should not be concerned that the incident presents any danger to them. The incident, he said, was an isolated incident involving people who knew each other, and they were not strangers to Powell.
“This was not a random act,” Feathers said. “All the parties involved were acquainted with each other. They were all local residents.”
One person reportedly was taken to Powell Valley Hospital by ambulance, according to scanner reports, but no information about his condition was provided. Other aspects of the case were not available, pending completion of the investigation.
