Wings ’N Wheels slated to take off Saturday morning

Posted

Powell’s Municipal Airport will be alive with the roar of car engines and the whir of airplane propellers this Saturday.

Wings ’N Wheels will return for its second year back after the aviation and auto show took a three-year hiatus starting in 2019. Last year the show had roughly 100 cars to show off and organizer Mike Martin expects the turnout to be around double due to an increase in advertising. Those wanting to show off their sweet rides don’t have to register ahead of time and are asked to check in on arrival. Gates will open at 6:30 a.m. and Martin said he will begin cooking at 7 a.m. This year’s breakfast is sponsored by the Experimental Aircraft Association out of Cody and proceeds go to scholarships for aviators, organizer Mike Martin said. Fly-ins will begin at 8 a.m. and this year’s pilots will feature Danny Sorenson of Golden Age Airshows in a biplane as well as Bert Summers in a World War II era T-6 Texan advanced trainer. Martin added that he has at least one if not two more “warbirds” coming in from Rexburg, Idaho. This year’s airshow will not be quite at the scale of past years but drag racing will be returning for the second year in a row, Martin said.

The popular event was added last year and the people who really responded positively to the event are the ones providing some of the funding this year, Martin said.

Around 9 a.m. the motorized events will kick off with the drag races on the runway and continue between air shows. The first air show will begin at roughly 10 a.m. There’s no restriction on what type of vehicle racers can bring to the runway.

“You can bring an RV out and race it, it's all about having fun” Martin said. “We don't pick and choose.”

Admission is $10 for adults but free for children 12 years old and younger. Tickets for the pancake breakfast are $9 per person. Other food vendors will also be available. For more information visit pcwingsnwheels.com.

“Make sure to come out and have fun, our only rule is if you don’t have a smile on your face go home,” Martin joked with a grin.
