USA Wrestling triumphs in home tournament

Posted

Young USA wrestlers from around Wyoming and Montana descended on Powell High School on March 10 and 11 to take part in the Powell 3-Style Tournament, where the Powell Wrestling Club came out on top as a team in freestyle, folkstyle and greco in front of the home crowds.

JaeBe Rapp shined through at the 8-year-old, 62-pound division in all three styles, finishing undefeated with a record of 10-0 over the two-day competition.

Clayton Cox (10) was the other Powell wrestler to win three titles, finishing 6-0 and taking home the top spot in the 120-plus pound division.

Rapp and Cox were not the only two Powell wrestlers to bring home multiple titles as Powell had five wrestlers bring home two titles.

Auzzy Carter (12) placed first in the 108-pound folkstyle and the 98-108 pound greco; Wade Gernhart (12) won the 135-pound folkstyle and 117-121-pound greco; Renee Torres (12) won both folkstyle and freestyle at 117 pounds; Case Davis (10) won the 71-77-pound greco and 67-71-pound freestyle divisions and Paele Rapp (12) won folkstyle and greco at 67 pounds.

Overall Powell had 38 individual titles over the two day competition, wracking up nearly 1,500 points in all three styles.
