Powell Valley Healthcare is set to unveil a program in September to help people at risk for type 2 diabetes.

The Prevent T2 program, hosted by Powell Valley Healthcare, is designed to help prevent or at least delay the onset of type 2 diabetes for anyone concerned about developing diabetes or who already knows they have pre-diabetes, according to a hospital release.

The program will take place at the Northwest College community education building on the Northwest College west campus on Tuesdays from 1-2 p.m. starting Sept. 12.

PVHC’s diabetic educators will lead the program and they include Tina Braet-Thomas, registered dietitian, certified diabetic educator and certified lifestyle coach, and Mary Neil, registered dietitian and certified lifestyle coach.

Braet-Thomas and Neil hosted a free lunch and learn about the program at Powell Valley Hospital on Wednesday, Aug. 30.

The Prevent T2 program is an evidence-based diabetes prevention program with proven results. It can reduce the risk of you developing diabetes by 58% and if you are over 60, it can reduce your risk by 71%. The program requires a one year commitment and the diabetic educators provide support throughout the year to help you reach your goals and stop the onset of diabetes.

“The Prevent T2 program focuses on lifestyle changes and helps people find ways to increase physical activity, decrease caloric intake and reduce their total body weight by 5 to 7%,” said Tina Braet-Thomas. “This is our third diabetes prevention program offered in Powell and we hope people take advantage of it. People who participated in the other two have changed their lives.”

The Prevent T2 program is a proven program that can help people stop or at least delay the onset of type 2 diabetes.

If you think you might have pre-diabetes or would like to learn more about the Prevent T2 program, call Tina Braet-Thomas at 307-754-2267, extension 3604.
