Two Northwest Trapper cowboys will look to make their mark at the College National Finals Rodeo in Casper — kicking off the annual week-long event Sunday at the Ford Wyoming Center.

Competing for Northwest will be Zane Young in bull riding alongside Logan Smith in tie down roping.

Young will be the first to compete on Sunday in the “Bulls, Broncs & Breakaway” which will have two sessions.

“Zane has won about $2,000 on circuit in Utah since he left school,” coach Del Nose said.

Young is expected to return on Thursday back to the arena but schedules had not been released as of press time.

Smith is expected to start competing Monday and Tuesday before potentially returning later in the week depending on results.

“Logan has been practicing at home outdoors,” Nose said. “The weather hasn’t been helping him.”

Despite only taking two cowboys to the finals this year, Nose is hopeful they will be able to make some noise during the event that will conclude next Saturday in Casper.

“We are hoping for the best,” Nose said. “I think we will be competitive. The guys have the ability, it just depends on how they handle it.”
