As the holiday season approaches, local dancers will be hard at work, practicing their roles in the Rocky Mountain Dance Theatre’s Nutcracker Ballet.
The 22nd annual ballet will be performed in Cody Dec. 14-15. Tickets go on sale Friday.
The local non-profit dance theatre announced two new guest artists Randy Pacheco and Sasha Vincett will perform the roles of the Cavalier and the Sugar Plum Fairy for this year’s Nutcracker. Pacheco is from Camaguey, Cuba and has been dancing with Ballet Arizona since 2015. Vincett is from Spring Grove, Pennsylvania, and has been with Ballet Arizona since 2007.
For the past several years, Natalia Magnicaballi and Michael Cook have been RMDT’s guest artists for the roles. Magnicaballi retired from professional dancing last year, making Rocky Mountain Dance Theatre’s 2018 Nutcracker the finale for both dancers.
They will work with Pacheco and Vincett in preparation for the theatre’s 22nd annual Nutcracker to ensure the character, choreography and storyline, created over the past several years, will continue.
Beyond offering a professional grade performance for attendees, The Nutcracker offers an education for the participants in ballet and theater techniques, academic knowledge, self-discipline, self-confidence and artistic expression.
“In an atmosphere of encouragement and acceptance, The Nutcracker provides experience and interaction with peers as well as professionals in dance and theatre,” organizers say.
Nutcracker performances will be Saturday, Dec. 14 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 15, at 2 p.m. at the Wynona Thompson Auditorium in Cody. Tickets can be purchased online at www.rockymountaindancetheatre.tix.com or at the Thistle in Cody.
