Twenty three years ago, Joyce Bloom founded the Tour of Homes in Powell. On Sunday, the perennial holiday event take places once again in Powell, this time as a tribute to Bloom.Bloom, who died in June, worked with the Powell Valley Chamber of Commerce from 1976 to 1996.

“Joyce was Powell's greatest cheerleader,” said Shelby Wetzel, an organizer of this weekend's Country Christmas.

Country Christmas culminates with the annual Tour of Homes, which is scheduled from 1-5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 6. Eight homes decked out in their holiday finery will be featured on this year's tour.

“It serves as one of the largest fundraisers for the chamber (of commerce),” said Wetzel. “Joyce brought it all together as a way to celebrate the holidays and highlight homes in the community.”

Seven of the homes are located within Powell city limits. The rural home of Rob and Tammy McCray at 738 Road 9 also is featured.

Families sharing their homes in town include: John and Cathy Campbell at 609 Avenue B, Sue Woods at 350 W. Fifth St., Steve and Meg Nickles at 349 N. Douglas St., Elva Gonzales at 130 Delaney Court, Rex and Cindy Bennett at 124 S. Greenfield Drive, Roger and Janice Beslanowitch at 1010 Avenue G and the residents of the Rocky Mountain Manor at 140 N. Cheyenne.

Tickets for the tour are $10 per person and may be purchased at the Powell Valley Chamber of Commerce office at 111 S. Day St.

Maps and directions to the homes are available at the office as well. For information, call 754-3494.
