‘It was good to see both of them get some attention for the things they’ve done on the floor’

Sophomores Megan Smith and Valerie Lesu each picked up some post-season recognition for the Northwest College women’s basketball program. Trapper head coach Janis Beal noted both were deserving of the honors they received.

Smith was tabbed for both all-region honors within Region IX and all-conference honors in the Wyoming Community College Athletic Conference.

Smith ranked among Region IX’s leaders in scoring for the 2010-2011 season. She finishes her two-year Trapper career having averaged 16.7 points per contest, finishing just shy of the 1,000-point plateau at NWC with 968 career points

Smith also shot 43.9 percent for her Trapper career from 3-point territory and averaged nearly two steals per game for Northwest.

Lesu was named to the WCCAC’s all-defensive team. The sophomore from Hawaii started 17 out of 28 games for Northwest after seeing spot minutes early in the season due to her involvement with the Trappers’ volleyball team as a two-sport athlete.

“It was good to see both of them get some attention for the things they’ve done on the floor,” Beal said. “They’ll certainly be missed next year.”
