Six Powell students selected for All-State Music

Posted

Six Powell High School students will be performing as Wyoming All-State musicians this January with four of them attending for the first time.

These students will be part of either All-State band, choir or orchestra. In band, Powell will be represented by seniors Gabby Paterson and Hannah Sears. Junior Maddie Johnson will be the only representative from Powell for All State Orchestra. Powell choir students attending All-State are freshman Levi Hawley, junior Breckin Streeter and sophomore Julian Frost.

Out of these students Sears and Johnson are the only two returning Powell students.

“It’s really crazy, it’s really surreal. After making all Northwest and All State, it feels like everything’s just going right senior year,” Paterson said. “It feels like my hard work has been paying off because I’ve been playing clarinet for seven years now and it just feels like it’s all built up to this peak and I’m just really excited about it.”

While Paterson is ending her band career with an All-State appearance, Hawley is the only freshman from the high school participating in an All-State performance.

“It feels definitely exciting to know that I have potential to be able to [be accepted] all four years for [All-State Choir] and I’m excited to be able to sing with some other musicians,” Hawley said.

Fellow underclassman Julian Frost is looking forward to making new friends following his experience at All–District Choir. Frost said that he was able to make new friends and imagines that he will have a similar experience during All-State Choir.

He added that he hopes to qualify in the next two years and may even look into doing more with music following high school graduation.

Streeter auditioned and was accepted into All-State Choir for the first time, which he called “pretty exciting.”

“I mostly just am looking forward to being able to be around people who enjoy music like I do, and are willing to put in a whole bunch of work and effort to make the music sound good,” Streeter said.

All-State Music will be Jan. 15-17 at Sheridan High School. Sears will be one of the students honored during the senior ceremony.
