Ending months of speculation, Wyoming House Speaker Colin Simpson, R-Cody, confirmed Monday afternoon that he will run for governor.In a message to supporters, Simpson announced: “I'm in!”Simpson will formally announce his campaign on Thursday with kick-off events in Cody, Cheyenne and Casper.

In his message, Simpson wrote, “It has been an honor to serve for the past two legislative sessions as Speaker of the House. Together, we accomplished a great deal for the people of Wyoming.
“We moved this state forward by enacting incentives for small businesses to create jobs, created a health care pilot project to bring down the cost of healthcare, initiated a study of buying health insurance across state lines and reducing the cost of health insurance, and we protected the state's reserves and reduced spending by almost $1 billion.”
Following 8 a.m. and noon events in Cheyenne and Casper, Simpson will host a kick-off at 5 p.m. at the Cody Holiday Inn.
Simpson joins GOP gubernatorial candidates Ron Micheli, former director of the state agricultural department, State Auditor Rita Meyer and Matt Mead, former Wyoming U.S. attorney.
Gov. Dave Freudenthal announced earlier this month that he will not seek a third term, and no other democrat has announced candidacy.
