Sears signs with Hastings College

Hannah Sears’ slick shooting has paid off. The Powell High School senior recently signed with Hastings College for shooting. She will have the opportunity to shoot every discipline at the collegiate level including trap, skeet, sporting clays, doubles trap, doubles skeet and five-stand.

Since both of her parents attended the school in Hastings, Nebraska, she’s always considered going to school there, but when she visited the school back in November, she felt like Hastings was her home.

“I knew from the moment I stepped on campus that this was the school for me,” Sears said. “Everyone there is so kind and you can tell they genuinely care about my success as a college student.”

Sears will be pursuing a degree in wildlife biology so she can follow a career path that enables her to work outdoors.

“As someone who grew up hunting, fishing and just being outside, I knew from a young age that I wanted to follow a career that allows me to be outdoors and study wildlife,” Sears said. “With a degree in wildlife biology, I’ll be able to do just that, and I can’t wait to see where it will take me.”

Along with receiving a $9,000 shooting scholarship, Sears was awarded the Hastings College Crimson scholarship which is the highest academic scholarship at the university worth $18,000. In addition to these, she also received the legacy scholarship because both of her parents are alumni.

Sears has been shooting for Polestar Outdoors for eight years, and she has established herself as an accomplished shooter. Attending several Scholastic Clay Target Program (SCTP) competitions in Cody, Sears has earned a myriad of medals. She’s currently the High Overall lady champion in the region which includes seven northwest states.

Last July, she traveled to Marengo, Ohio, to compete in the 2022 SCTP National Competition where she was a part of the Wyoming-All State Team. She competed in trap, skeet, sporting clays, doubles trap, doubles skeet and five-stand.

She plans to return to Ohio this coming summer to compete in the 2023 SCTP National Competition before she heads to Hastings in the fall.
