Seniors receive scholarships from PCRW

Two Powell High School senior girls were awarded scholarships when they attended the 15th annual Park County Republican Women (PCRW) Leadership Tea at the Buffalo Bill Center of the West on April 10.

Powell seniors Madison Harvey and Kabrie Cannon were joined by seniors Allison Edwards of Cody and Delanie Salzman of Meeteetse. All four students received $1,000 scholarships from PCRW.

Salzman was awarded the Peg Coe Memorial scholarship; Cannon was awarded the Peg Shreve Memorial scholarship; Edwards was presented a PCRW scholarship in memory of state Sen. Hank Coe; Harvey was presented a PCRW scholarship.

Salzman and Cannon will be pursuing elementary education degrees; Harvey will be pursuing degrees in both art and business; Edwards will be pursuing a degree in range management and watershed ecology.

Although the students had applied for the scholarships, they did not know the scholarships would be presented at the tea party.

“I honestly didn’t know it existed before I applied for the scholarship,” Harvey said of the organization. “There’s a lot of women from Park County involved and they truly care.”

The event was also attended by PCRW President Jacque Stouffer and family, who were honored by PCRW at the event.

Keynote speaker Ashlee Lundvall was the highlight of the event for both Cannon and Harvey.

“Ashlee Lundvall was and is today a lover of animals and a hunter. She is an inspirational speaker for all who attended because of her extraordinary abilities as an active woman in a wheelchair,” a PCRW press release stated. “She earned the title of Ms. Wheelchair USA with her platform of making the outdoors accessible for everyone. Lundvall shared how she balances family and career as a wife and mother.”

After attending the event, Harvey and Cannon were inspired by the group. Both said they would consider joining PCRW.

“Yes, I think it’s a super cool group that has a super powerful mission, so yes, I’d probably consider joining it,” Cannon said.
