Dear editor:
We have received disturbing reports that multiple Wyoming school districts have sought to undermine the Homeschool Freedom Act by demanding that homeschool parents provide a “notice of intent” or “notice of withdrawal” in order to educate their kids at home.
Let us be clear: With the overwhelming passage of House Bill 46 this session, the power of school districts to issue permission slips to parents who seek to homeschool their children has been repealed.
The law is not confusing. Unless a child is exiting the public school system after being enrolled, Wyoming parents are not obligated to inform the district of their intent to homeschool, nor are they required to provide the district with their curriculum.
In Wyoming, we protect homeschool freedom.
We’re calling on Superintendent Megan Degenfelder to issue uniform guidance to all 48 school districts to ensure that the rights of all homeschool parents and students in Wyoming are protected.
