(May 20, 1924 - Aug. 6, 2001) Funeral services for a former Deaver resident, Russell Elmer Webb, 77, will be conducted Friday at 10 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints between Basin and Greybull. Mr. Webb died Monday, Aug. 6 at the Bonnie Bluejacket Memorial Nursing Home in Basin.He was born at Deaver on May 20, 1924, to Winone Maxwell and Clarence L. Webb. He graduated from Deaver High School in 1942, where he played on the football team and in the band. He joined the National Guard at Lovell.He was inducted into the U.S. Army in March of 1943 and served in F Company of the 66th Regiment, 2nd Armored Division, landing on Omaha Beach the day after D Day. He was wounded Dec. 20, 1944, in the Battle of the Bulge and received the Purple Heart. He was honorably discharged Dec. 23, 1946.He married Edith May Leavitt July 21, 1950, at Shell, a marriage sealed in the Idaho Falls Temple on July 7, 1960 for time and all eternity. They had just celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary.He was formerly employed by the Deaver Irrigation District and farmed with his father-in-law, Orville Leavitt in Shell. He was with the Wyoming Highway Department for 20 years, eight of which were at South Pass, and the remainder at Basin as district sign foreman.He enjoyed being busy and farming, gardening and building things. He enjoyed his grandchildren, great-grandchildren and family gatherings.Survivors include his wife Edith of Basin; a son, William Webb and wife Carol of Greybull; two daughters, Evelyn LeMott and husband Ken of Great Falls, Mont., and Rusty Owen and husband Tim of Basin; four grandsons, Aaron Owen and wife Tara of Powell, Geoffrey Owen and wife Cari of Basin, Aubrey Owen of Powell and Adam Webb of Burlington; five granddaughters, Colleen Johnson and husband Cory of Great Falls, Mont., Angela Hibbert and husband Don of Burlington, Sarah Brown and husband Mitchell of Basin, Deeun Tigner and husband Travis of Worland, and Holly Webb of Basin; two sisters, Pearl Dicks of Powell and Ruth Sutton and husband Paul of Lovell; and one sister-in-law, Joy Webb of Riverton, Utah. Burial will be in the Whaley Cemetery on Shell Creek.
